Unplug Trump's World and Plug it Back in - How Trump's era has turned software products into quality-abandoned shit.

Over the past decade, software and web application development have undergone a dramatic transformation. What was once a discipline grounded in craftsmanship, stability, and long-term thinking has increasingly shifted toward speed, cost efficiency, and rapid feature delivery. The combined influence of Agile methodology, global outsourcing, artificial intelligence, and the economic environment shaped during the era of Donald Trump has contributed to a noticeable decline in perceived software quality—something both everyday users and experienced developers are feeling more acutely.

Agile methodology, originally intended to make development more responsive and collaborative, has in many cases been reduced to a relentless sprint cycle. Instead of fostering thoughtful iteration, Agile is often implemented as a mechanism to push out features as quickly as possible. Deadlines become tighter, and success is measured by velocity rather than stability. The result is software that is constantly changing but rarely maturing. Bugs, regressions, and half-finished features are no longer exceptions—they’re expected side effects.

At the same time, outsourcing has fundamentally altered how software is built. While global talent can be a strength, cost-driven outsourcing models frequently prioritize affordability over cohesion and accountability. Distributed teams working across time zones can struggle with communication gaps, inconsistent coding standards, and fragmented ownership. This often leads to systems that function, but lack polish, consistency, and long-term maintainability.

Artificial intelligence has further accelerated this trend. Tools that generate code, automate testing, or scaffold applications have made it easier than ever to build software quickly. But speed does not guarantee quality. AI-generated code can introduce inefficiencies, security risks, or logic flaws that are not immediately obvious. When organizations rely too heavily on automation without sufficient human oversight, they risk producing applications that “work” on the surface but fail under real-world conditions.

Layered on top of these technical shifts is the broader economic context. During Trump’s presidency, policies emphasizing deregulation, corporate tax cuts, and aggressive market competition contributed to an environment where businesses were incentivized to maximize output while minimizing costs. In the tech sector, this often translated into leaner teams, shorter development cycles, and a focus on shipping features that drive engagement or revenue—sometimes at the expense of reliability and user experience.

For the general public, the consequences are tangible. Apps crash more often. Updates fix one problem but introduce another. Interfaces change so frequently that users struggle to keep up. There is a growing sense that software is perpetually “in beta,” even when it’s marketed as a finished product.

For seasoned developers, the frustration runs deeper. Many entered the field with a passion for building elegant, durable systems. Today, they often find themselves fighting against unrealistic timelines, technical debt, and a culture that undervalues quality. The pride of craftsmanship is harder to maintain when the priority is speed above all else.

This isn’t to say that Agile, outsourcing, or AI are inherently harmful. Each offers real benefits when applied thoughtfully. But the current trajectory—driven by economic pressure and competitive urgency—has skewed their implementation. The balance between speed and quality has tipped too far in one direction.

If the industry hopes to regain trust from users and restore a sense of purpose among developers, it will need to recalibrate. That means redefining success not just as how fast something is delivered, but how well it performs over time. Because in the end, software isn’t just about features—it’s about reliability, usability, and the confidence that it will work when it matters most.
